Chamber music by the Van Baerle Trio
Programme
- Joseph Haydn Piano trio no. 42 in E-flat major
- Theo Verbey Trio for violin, cello and piano
- Franz Schubert Piano Trio in E flat major, D.929
For this concert, artist in residence Maria Milstein has invited her comrades of the Van Baerle Trio: pianist Hannes Minnaar and cellist Gideon den Herder. Here, the trio presents an 'in memoriam' to the Dutch composer Theo Verbey, whose music was regularly performed in the Friday concert. Theo Verbey passed away in October 2019. The opening work is Joseph Haydn's last Piano Trio, full of liveliness, lyricism and esprit. And as the last work, Franz Schubert's Second Piano Trio, written for his oldest friend and former schoolmate, the lawyer Joseph von Spaun. When Von Spaun got engaged, Schubert presented this work and had it performed at his engagement party in January 1828.
