Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Groot Omroepkoor

In 1945, the broadcasting ensembles were established that now fall under the Stichting Omroep Muziek (Broadcasting Music Foundation). Through the ether, the top radio ensembles brought the most beautiful music to the entire country. Now in their 75th year, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Groot Omroepkoor are celebrating together. The young Dutch composer Jan-Peter de Graaff has written a festive work for choir and orchestra. Star conductor Karina Canellakis also conducts Brahms' Schicksalslied and Sibelius' Third Symphony.

Brahms and Sibelius
A poem by Hölderlin forms the basis of Brahms' Schicksalslied. The text about the happiness of the gods and the suffering of man inspired him to write a moving work for choir and orchestra. When Sibelius composed his Third Symphony, he had just escaped the busy city. In Helsinki every melody in me died away', he complained. The composer moved into a small house in the woods, near a lake. His Third became his most easy-going and balanced symphony. But in the finale he still manages to be triumphant.
