Brahms' Double Concerto and Beethoven 7
Programme
- Johannes Brahms Concert for violin, cello and orchestra
- Ludwig van Beethoven Seventh symphony
Brahms wrote his Double Concerto for violin and cello, reflecting a summer in Switzerland, for his friend and cellist Robert Hausmann. Beethoven's Seventh is a symphony with a positive, optimistic, sometimes even jubilant sound. A passionate rhythmic pulse beats through all the movements. Even in the movement in minor, the beautiful second movement in a minor, which is nevertheless a real funeral march, the same resilience is preserved. It is not for nothing that Beethoven wrote 'Allegretto' for it and not some slow tempo, as in the truly tragic funeral march from the Eroica (Third Symphony).
In this concert, the conductor Tianyi Lu replaces Nodoka Okisawa, who had to cancel due to illness.
