The Residentie Orkest, together with bandoneon player Carel Kraayenhof, will pay tribute to the Argentine magician of the modern tango, Astor Piazzolla, who was born in 1921. With the tango, Piazzolla brought one of the most popular dances of the western hemisphere to great prosperity. In doing so, he crossed the line between popular and classical music time and time again. He was the master of the tango, not for pubs and cafés, but for the concert hall. He brought the classical Argentine tango together with the sound worlds of Debussy and Ravel and made the tango into art with a capital A.
