Sonata for cello and piano by Rachmninov
Cellist Ella van Poucke is in the spotlight. In the 22-23 season she is artist in residence of the AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert and can be heard in Utrecht's TivoliVredenburg both solo and in chamber music. In the chamber music series of the Muziekcentrum van de Omroep she makes her entrance with a certain demanding work, both for her and for pianist Caspar Vos. In the Sonata for Cello and Piano, Rachmaninov explores the possibilities of the cello, set against a piano part that is quite virtuosic. Rachmaninov himself held the work in baptism with cellist Anatoli Brandukov on December 2, 1901, and how historic that must have been, for by now the Sonata is considered one of the most important cello works of the 20th century.
