Grieg's Holberg Suite and Niek Baar plays Ravel's Tzigane
Programme
- Antonín Dvořák Violin Romance
- Anton Webern Langsamer Satz
- Maurice Ravel Tzigane
- Edvard Grieg Holberg Suite
The Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra plays Grieg's radiant Holberg Suite. Violinist Niek Baar is a guest in Ravel's fiery Tzigane, but also plays Dvo?ák's graceful, compelling Romance.
Grieg
Grieg wrote his Holbergsuite in memory of the writer and philosopher of the same name. He chose his own vision of a style of music that Holberg himself might have heard: the French Baroque. The Holbergsuite is alternately stirring and danceable. Radiant with light, moreover, full of ingeniously interwoven strings. Grieg's beloved work is performed by the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra.
Ravel
Niek Baar, winner of the 2018 Dutch Violin Competition, will solo in Ravel's Tzigane. A lively rhapsody based on gypsy music, full of fire and drama. A different side of his playing can be heard in Dvo?ák's Romance. A gracious, compelling ode to love. The Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra also plays Webern's Langsamer Satz.
