The concert originally scheduled for today, the grandiose The War (with four choirs) by Flemish composer Peter Benoit, has been cancelled for understandable reasons. An alternative in a smaller setting also ran into too many practical obstacles. Yet tonight you can listen to a live concert by members of the Groot Omroep Mannenkoor and an ensemble from the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. Choir and orchestra, led by chief conductor Benjamin Goodson of the Groot Omroepkoor, have chosen music that sometimes feels like physical caresses of your ears and your soul, like the songs of Schubert. Or for subdued music in which somehow a ray of light always shines through, such as Poulenc's songs of praise for Saint Anthony of Padua, patron saint of pilgrims and lovers and patron saint against shipwreck and fever.
