The creative quest of Gijs Idema and Anna Serierse
In the Idema/Serierse Quartet Gijs Idema and Anna Serierse are looking for new ways to combine voice and guitar. In doing so they strive for a unique blend of these two 'instruments', supported by the strong foundation of Cas Jiskoot on double bass and Tim Hennekes on drums. The quartet was previously described as a unit that paints in broad strokes with a strong sense of freedom, melody, rhythm and form.
The quartet has been playing together for several years. They have played at the Bimhuis, at Jazzfest and the Grachtenfestival, among other venues. Separately they have won the Expression of Art Award, Keep an Eye Outstanding Talent Award and the Stichting Jazztalent Award, among others.
With the Idema/Serierse Quartet you can rightly speak of singing as an instrument', writes Jan Bol in JAZZNU (June 8, 2021), 'Anna Serierse with her warm soprano gives a penetrating performance in the quartet. She is a true voice-athlete on the balance beam of the improvisations. Guitar, bass and percussion always guarantee a perfect dismount.'
