Concerts in the Broadcasting Music Centre

Chamber music (4) - Hexagon Ensemble with a second chance for Mozart and Poulenc

Programme

  • Francis Poulenc Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Quintet for winds and piano, KV 452
  • Francis Poulenc Sextet for wind quintet and piano

For the thirty-year-old Hexagon Ensemble, a jubilee programme with music by Mozart and Poulenc was compiled for the 2020-2021 season. Unfortunately, this was one of the concerts that had to be postponed. One year after the anniversary, the magnificent Quintet KV 452 by Mozart can still be heard, surrounded by a trio and a sextet by the wilful Francis Poulenc. To Poulenc, Mozart was an idol. He even went so far as to claim that after listening to music by Wagner, he 'washed his ears with Mozart's music'.
