The human voice has a unique ability to touch the heart more deeply than any instrument. This is especially true in this romantic music for choir and piano, centered on the themeof peace, performed by the Groot Omroepkoor and Nathalia Milstein.

Choral and Piano Romanticism Centered on the Theme of Peace
Arnold Schönberg composed his late-Romantic hymn ofpeace, *Friede auf Erden*—his final tonal work—a few years before World War I. It was a time when he “still considered pure harmony among people (…) conceivable.” The choral works by Brahms and Wolf are absolute highlights of the Romantic repertoire, exquisitely beautiful and overwhelming. “This is me,” said Gustav Mahler about*Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen*. It is a fatalistic “self-portrait” of the Romantic artist who withdraws from the worldly and finally finds peace within himself.

The Groot Omroepkoor & Nathalia Milstein
The Groot Omroepkoor is the only professional choir in the Netherlands that specializes in the choral-symphonic repertoire. In this romantic program centered on the themeof Peace, the singers demonstrate that they also rank among the very best as an a cappella choir. In this program, the choir performs both a cappella and with piano accompaniment by Nathalia Milstein, who recently reached the finals of the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
