Emperor of spiritual choral music is undoubtedly Arvo Pärt, who celebrates his 90th birthday this year. The National Choirs pay warm tribute to the Estonian composer in a program that places him in the context of related contemporaries.
Endless Lakes
In the "Nordic" lands, with the iridescent aurora borealis and endless lakes, planet Earth seems just a little more beautiful. This is echoed in the awesome choral tradition that exists there. Singing makes you one with nature and the spiritual values of life. No composer with whom this resonates as much as with Pärt.
Simplicity and imagination
Pärt wrote numerous works for choir. In them he combines musical simplicity with imagination and a great knowledge of choral tradition. An unfathomable love for nature and God can be heard in all his works. A similar aesthetic can be heard in his colleagues Tormis and Rautavaara. Conductors Irene Verburg and László Nemes act as knowledgeable tour guides through the colorful North European choral landscape.
