Ode to Joy
Programme
- Ludwig van Beethoven Ninth symphony
Beethoven's Ninth
It is partly thanks to Wagner that Beethoven's Ninth Symphony has become such a milestone in the orchestral repertoire. It was he who unearthed the work from the archives to inaugurate his concert hall in Bayreuth. Gradually, the tumultuous symphony became a symbol of freedom, equality and (fellow) humanity. Values that Beethoven held in high esteem and which he elaborates in a monumental and triumphant manner in this symphony for orchestra and choir.
Krzysztof Urbanski
The Polish conductor Krzysztof Urbanski is praised for his expressive style. The San Francisco Chronicle called him a dancer. Elegant, funky and expressive, his body flows along with the music. Today, he leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Groot Omroepkoor in Beethoven's extensive Ninth Symphony.
