Pieces of Tomorrow - Shostakovich 5

Programme

  • Dmitri Shostakovich Fifth symphony

Pop and classical music merge in Pieces of Tomorrow: classical music in a new guise. In just over an hour you will hear excerpts from masterpieces that you must have heard live. Take your drink into the hall, let visuals and light enhance the music and enjoy the pure sound of a full symphony orchestra. Host DJ St. Paul talks to conductor and musicians and reveals the stories behind the notes.

About Shostakovich 5

You won't want to miss this edition. Shostakovich's most famous symphony, his Fifth. In the terrible 1930s in the USSR, Stalin thought Dmitri Shostakovich was writing rotten music, and thus a traitor to his country. Shos knew what he had to do: a symphony to please the boss. His Fifth Symphony is full of the retteketet that Stalin loved. Fortunately, he did not understand, what the rest of the Soviet Union did hear: how bitterly sarcastic the symphony is. Heavily impressive.

Afterparty

After the concert, the party continues until midnight. The bar is open, St. Paul provides danceable tunes and the musicians mingle with audience members for a chat.
