The Groot Omroepkoor sings some of Schubert's finest choral works, in addition to a capella repertoire by Poulenc and Britten. Pianist Nino Gvetadze will accompany and solo in pieces by Schubert and Brahms.

Schubert's finest choral and piano music

We know Schubert mainly as a composer of songs, chamber music and symphonies. But do you know his choral music? It is magnificent! Whether he composed for choir a cappella or with piano accompaniment, Schubert knows how to combine in his choral works the drama of his songs with the richness of sound of his orchestral pieces, combined with the intimacy of his chamber music.

Great Broadcasting Choir and Nino Gvetadze

Georgian-Dutch pianist Nino Gvetadze is at home in the Concertgebouw. She has given recitals in the Small Hall and recorded a CD there, and she has also been able to impress in the Great Hall, most recently during the benefit Concert for Peace. With the Groot Omroepkoor, the 'house choir' of Het Zondagochtend Concert, she makes a combination that seems less obvious, but which works beautifully: music for choir and piano by Schubert alternates with piano solo repertoire by Schubert and Brahms. The Groot Omroepkoor also shines in a cappella repertoire by Poulenc and Britten.
