Simone Lamsma plays Korngold

Programme

  • Maurice Ravel La valse
  • Erich Wolfgang Korngold Violin Concerto
  • Nikolai Cherepnin La princesse lointaine
  • Richard Strauss Suite from Der Rosenkavalier

Korngold's imaginative Violin Concerto st irs and moves. Top violinists rediscover this forgotten classic. Artist in residence, violinist Simone Lamsma, revives Korngold's cinematic wealth of sound. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra puts this violin classic in perspective with works by Ravel, Strauss and Cherepnin.

Korngold's music is experiencing a true renaissance. A musical prodigy, Korngold was a sensation in early 20th century Vienna. With the arrival of the Nazis, Korngold sought his salvation in movie town Hollywood. Korngold's music brings together the best of both worlds: the golden Viennese classical tradition and the imaginative flair of American Hollywood. His 1945 Violin Concerto brings together all his skill and mastery.

Korngold's Violin Concerto is right up Simone Lamsma's alley. Twentieth-century violin concertos by Barber, Adams and Szymanowski are also lifted to great heights by the Dutch star violinist. All over the world, Lamsma solos with the greatest orchestras. "Brilliant," wrote The New York Times about her debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2018.
