Between Romanticism and Futurism: Rachmaninov and Mosolov
Programme
- Ralph Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto
- Alexander Mosolov The iron foundry
- Luciano Berio Sequenza for oboe solo
- Sergei Rachmaninov Second symphony
The Noord Nederlands Orkest, together with London-born conductor Kerem Hasan and the solo oboist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Albrecht Mayer, presents a program of extremes. From one side, shimmering romanticism in Rachmaninov's Second Symphony. From the other side futuristic sounds from Russian industry in 1926 by Alexander Mosolov "translated" to the symphony orchestra. In between, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Oboe Concerto. The premiere in London in 1944 was canceled because of bombers flying overhead.
