In the opening concert of the series, you will first hear music by the inspired conductor and gifted composer Jan van Gilse, who was in charge of the Utrecht City Orchestra (USO) around 1920 and was held in high esteem by musicians and audiences alike at the time. The elegant, graceful and melodious Fourth Violin Concerto by Mozart with the young German soloist Tobias Feldmann will be followed by Modest Mussorgsky's powerful Pictures of an Exhibition. The original piano version reached world fame in the orchestral version played here by Maurice Ravel.
