Verklärte Nacht and The Four Seasons by Piazzolla
Programme
- Nick Forest Leaves in autumn
- Arnold Schoenberg Verklärte Nacht
- Astor Piazzolla The four seasons of Buenos Aires
The light and dark of the seasons offers centuries of inspiration. The unadulterated tango king Astor Piazzolla captured the swinging seasonal dance in his infectious Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas. The resulting concerto The Four Seasons is one of Piazzolla's most popular works. Violinist Simone Lamsma tackles this modern classic, receiving support from the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
Everyone knows Piazzolla from heartbreaking tango classics like Adiós Nonino (Queen Máxima's tearful song). But with his nuevo tango, Piazzolla also makes forays into classical music. Piazzolla can paint like no other with moods such as melancholy and longing. In addition to being an ode to the seasons, his DeVier Jaargetijden is a vibrant portrait of the city of Buenos Aires.
Chief among them is the down-to-earth but determined top violinist Simone Lamsma, who is currently storming the international concert stages. 'Absolutely overwhelming,' the Chicago Tribune wrote of Lamsma. Tonight, the strings of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Lamsma surprise with two opposites of twentieth-century music. Like Piazzolla, Schoenberg plays with rapidly changing emotions and atmospheres. In Schoenberg's classic Verklärte Nacht , the stormy mood swings accumulate masterfully.
