Edward Mebius

Edward Mebius once played bass guitar in a hard rock band. Then he discovered the double bass, studied at the Hilversum Conservatory with Peter Jansen and then at the Sweelinck in Amsterdam with Henk Guldemond.

After graduating, he was hired by the Muziekcentrum van de Omroep.
Besides his position as double bass player in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, he is very active in various chamber music ensembles. Edward taught for twelve years at the Light Music Department of the Hilversum Conservatory. A rediscovery of the bass guitar prompted him to start composing. 

This was initially aimed at the bass guitar, but soon for all kinds of mostly classical line-ups. Commissions for e.g. Ensemble Cameleon, the Stichting Raadhuisconcerten Hilversum, the Nederlandse Harp Vereniging and a trio for clarinet, bass trombone and double bass for members of the Nederlands Blazersensemble followed. 

The Muziekcentrum van de Omroep has released a CD containing his first String Quartet, a string quintet and Seven Songs to poems by Gerrit Kouwenaar for soprano, violin and piano. The CD received favourable reviews in publications including NRC Handelsblad and the music magazine Luister.
