Emilio Aguilar Balbuena

Tenor Emilio Aguilar was born in Argentina in 1989. At age 9 he began his piano studies and at 15 he started vocal training, both at the Gilardo Gilardi Conservatory in his hometown of La Plata. After high school, Emilio studied choral conducting at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata.
In 2010, he moved to the Netherlands to study voice at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He received his Bachelor's degree in 2015 and in 2020 he earned his Master's degree in Early Music Singing at the Conservatory of Amsterdam (Cum Laude) with Xenia Meijer, as well as a Master's degree in Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam (Cum Laude).
Emilio is a member of the Groot Omroepkoor and freelances with the Nederlands Kamerkoor and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging. As a soloist in oratorios and early music, he has worked with companies such as Musica Temprana (Adrian van der Spoel), Jove Capella Real de Catalunya (Jordi Savall), Ensemble Elyma (Gabriel Garrido) and Le Nuove Musiche (Krijn Koetsveld). He is also a founding member of the ensemble Seconda Pratica, with which he performed at important European festivals: Festival d'Ambronay (France), Gottingen Handel Festspiel (Germany), Stockholm Early Music (Sweden), Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht and Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik (Austria).
After a 3-year study of the Feldenkrais Method, Emilio became a teacher of Mind and Body Studies in 2017. In 2016 he taught the Body&Mind course at the Conservatory of Amsterdam together with Irthe Aya Engelhard. Today he regularly teaches workshops combining singing with the Feldenkrais Method at the conservatories of Utrecht and Amsterdam.
