Jos Lammerse

Jos Lammerse received his first bassoon lessons at the age of 10 from Ottomar Schulze at the music school in Hengelo. A year later, he won first prize at the European Youth Music Festival in Neerpelt (B). He studied with Joep Terweij at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He also took private lessons from Brian Pollard. He won a second prize at the Tromp Competition in Eindhoven. Jos was part of the Van Gendt wind quintet for 10 years.

During his studies, he became solo bassoonist with the Brabants Orchestra and a year later with the Radio Kamerorkest. At the age of 25 he became solo bassoonist of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

He was also a member of the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend, with whom he travelled to Japan, America, Italy, Spain, Russia, Eastern Europe and South America, among other places. He is also a member of the Radio Wind Ensemble, and played baroque bassoon in the Catharijne Consort. He is also in demand as a guest player in renowned orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and has worked with conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons, Valery Gergiev, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Jurowski, Kurt Sanderling, Vasily Petrenko, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Mark Minkowski, Jaap van Zweden, Edo de Waart, Markus Stenz and Karina Canellakis.

As a soloist, he performed on both modern bassoon and baroque bassoon in cities such as Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, New York, Moscow, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Mexico City, with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and the Catharijne Consort, among others.
