Michael Müller

Michael Müller was born in Günzburg on the Danube; his father came from Transylvania and his mother from Austria. He studied cello at the Musikhochschule in Munich and the Academy of Arts in Berlin. He then took part in master classes with Boris Pergamenshikof, David Geringas and Heinrich Schiff.

Michael trained in chamber music with Walter Levine of the Lasalle Quartet, with the Amadeus Quartet in Cologne and with Sándor Vegh in Salzburg. In 1977, he founded a string quartet. With it he won first prize at the national competition Jugend musiziert in Germany. In 1987, he became solo cellist of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Frankfurt/Bremen. Since 1998 he has been the cellist of the Parkanyi Quartet. From 1995 to 2013 he was solo cellist of the Radio Kamerorkest, respectively the Radio Kamer Filharmonie. Since August 2013 he is 1st solo cellist of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Michael Müller performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician all over Europe. He also participates in many renowned international festivals such as the Berliner Festwochen and the Salzburger Festspiele. He has recorded the cello concertos of H. Andriessen, Georgi Minchev and Henk Badings on CD.

Michael Müller plays a cello by Januarius Gagliano (Naples 1734), made available to him by the National Music Instrument Fund.
