Nanco de Vries

Dutch baritone Nanco de Vries began his vocal studies as a bass at the Utrecht Conservatory with Udo Reinemann and completed them with distinction. In the same year, he was a prize winner at the Christina Deutekom competition and was admitted to the study programme for the Dutch Music Prize.
He continued his vocal studies with Diane Forlano and developed his voice further in the baritone field with American tenor James McCray.

He then made his baritone debut as Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana. Currently, he is coached by Gundula Hintz.
He has worked with several prominent conductors such as Hartmut Haenchen, Graham Jenkins, Alan Lombard, Yuri Simanov, Hans Vonk, Edo de Waart and Vladimir Spivakov. And with directors such as Willy Decker, Peter Stein and Christine Mielitz.
Highlights of his last engagements in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw include Christ in Matthew Passion by Bach with the Brabants Orkest, Die Theresien Messe and Die Schöpfung (Haydn) (Radio Kamer Orkest conducted by Frans Brüggen), Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (Claus Peter Flor) and Janáceck's Osud (Radio Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Edo de Waart). Furthermore Nanco sang the title roles in 'outdoor-concerts' in Amsterdam of Verdi`s Nabucco and MacBeth.

Abroad, he could be heard in Italy in Shostakovich's Symphony No.14 (Padua Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hans Vonk) and in the Canary Islands in the same work (Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra conducted by Viktor Libermann), in Spain in Mozart's Requiem (Moscow Virtuosi conducted by Vladimir Spivakov), in Turkey in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mozart's Requiem. Rickenbacher) and in France the title role in Schumann's Szenen zu Goethes Faust (Orchestre National de Lille conducted by C.A. Rickenbacher).
In the Große Festspielhaus in Salzburg and in the Philharmonie München Nanco could be heard as Alberich with the Münchner Sinfoniker conducted by H. Förster in Loriot's Ring an einem Abend. In Norway Nanco participated in a scenic performance of Bizet's Carmen as Escamillo.
From 1996 he was associated with the Meininger Staats Theater, where he performed parts in Tosca, Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Cosi fan tutte, Lady Macbeth von Mzensk, Hänsel und Gretel, DasRheingold, Götterdämmerung, La Traviata and Peter Grimes.
Afterwards Nanco was a permanent member of the Komische Oper in Berlin.
At present he is working as a freelance opera and concert singer alongside his job at the Groot Omroepkoor.
