Pieter Hendriks

Pieter Hendriks (The Hague, 1964) studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. His teachers were Herman Woltman and Wout Oosterkamp. After completing his studies he made his name in the Netherlands and abroad as a singer of oratorio repertoire. He worked with conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Christian Zacharias, Pierre Cao, Jan Willem de Vriend and Ed Spanjaard. As an opera singer he performed the roles of MacBeth (Verdi), Richard Nixon (John Adams' Nixon in China) and the title role in Der Kaiser von Atlantis (Viktor Ullman).

In 2004 Pieter Hendriks joined the bass section of the Groot Omroepkoor. In that same year he sang at the Shaliapingala concert in Kazan and performed Purcell's King Arthur in Brittany and the Netherlands. In 2005, he was successful in the transvestite role of Mama Agatha in Donizetti's Viva la Mama. He also made a solo contribution to the Concertgebouw Orchestra's Christmas matinee, conducted by Mariss Jansons.
With the Nationale Reisopera, he sang the role of Henry in Snow White in 2008. He also participated in a production of Der Vampyr by Marschner as part of the Grachtenfestival. He was one of the soloists with the Orchestra of the 18th Century conducted by Frans Brüggen in a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Barcelona.

Pieter Hendriks has a special admiration for the music of Mikis Theodorakis and the voice of Maria Farantouri.
