Toine Martens

Toine Martens studied at the Maastricht Academy of Music principal study horn with Professor Erich Penzel and principal study piano with Tilly Keessen. In 1990 he began his career as second horn player in Berlin with the Berliner Symphoniker and two years later with the Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Berlin.

After almost 10 years, he returned to the Netherlands, where he worked for a year with the Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2000 he has been second horn player with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. As a substitute he played in Berlin with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, the Berliner Philharmoniker and the opera orchestras. In The Netherlands, he played regularly with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition, he has participated in various chamber music ensembles both in Berlin and in the Netherlands, including the Combattiment Consort Amsterdam, the Schönberg Ensemble, the ASKO Ensemble, the Ives Ensemble and the Holland Wind Players.
