Albert van Ommen

Albert van Ommen started singing and piano lessons at the age of 12 in the Noord-Hollands Jongenskoor in Alkmaar. From 1989 he studied at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, with Margreet Honig, Maarten Koningsberger and Paula de Wit. In 1996 he obtained his teaching certificate there.

Albert then continued his studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, with Diane Forlano and Rita Dams, where he graduated as a performing musician in 1998. At the same time as his studies as a performing musician, he also studied at the Opera Akademie between the conservatoires of Amsterdam and The Hague. Here, he sang in operas such as A Midsummer Night's Dream (Lysander) by Britten, Egisto by Cavalli, Die Zauberflöte (Tamino) by Mozart, and Riders to the Sea (Bartley) by Vaughan Williams. All these operas were conducted by Kenneth Montgomery.
He has performed many songs by Schumann, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss and others together with his wife, the pianist Natasja Douma. He is also active in the field of oratorio. He also composes music, the lyrics of which are written by his wife.
Albert has worked with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Yakov Kreizberg, and has given concerts with pianist Rudolf Jansen.
