Nicoline Bovens

The mezzo-soprano Nicoline Bovens studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Marianne Dieleman and also took master classes with Jard van Nes, Robert Holl, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson and William Shimell.

She obtained her UM solo singing diploma with an honourable mention for her performance of Luciano Berio's Circles. Thanks to grants from the Prins Bernhard Fonds and the Stichting Voortgezette Studie Podiumkunsten, she was able to continue her studies with Diane Forlano in Chicago.

Besides her work in the Netherlands Radio Choir, Nicoline Bovens can regularly be heard as a soloist in oratorios. In the field of opera and operetta, she has performed as Spirit, First Witch and Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, Leonora in The Mirror of Venice by Hendrik Andriessen, Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus by Johan Strauss, Lisa in Grafin Maritza by Emmerich Kalman and Metella in La vie Parisienne by Jacques Offenbach. With theatre group Teneeter, she sang in the music theatre productions Kasper Hauser and Repelsteel. She also participated in the premiere of the Judas Passion by double bass player Egon Kracht.

With the SongCircle ensemble, she gives concerts of vocal music for, among others, the Friends of the Song. Since 2014 she has been giving concerts with Hilversum 5 consisting of 4 singers and permanent pianist Ben Martin Weijand of the Groot Omroepkoor.

She is also active in chamber music with Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, the Ivesensemble and the Calefax Reed Quintet. She has also participated in a number of CD recordings, including Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell and The wooden branch by Slagwerkgroep Den Haag.
