80 Years of Radio Ensembles: From the Studio to the World Stage

The Groot Omroepkoor and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra are celebrating their 80th anniversary this season. Since their founding in 1945, both ensembles have enchanted generations of listeners with an impressive repertoire, groundbreaking premieres, innovative operas, and well-known works. Their unique collaboration with public broadcasting has contributed to a rich tradition of live broadcasts and concert recordings, which continue to reach a wide audience today through series such as the AVROTROS Friday Concert, the NTR Saturday Matinee, and the Sunday Morning Concert.

With an international reputation and undeniable artistic versatility, they have become leading ambassadors of Dutch culture. The orchestra is regarded as one of the most progressive symphony orchestras in the Netherlands, while the choir holds a unique position as one of the largest professional choirs in Europe.

“For eighty years, these musicians have been sharing their passion with audiences,” said Simone Meijer, director of the Omroep Muziek Foundation. “That makes their music not only artistically impressive, but also deeply human and indispensable to our cultural landscape.”
