Florian Helgath has been appointed chief conductor of the Groot Omroepkoor.
The Groot Omroepkoor is delighted to announce that Florian Helgath has been appointed chief conductor, effective from the 2027–2028 season. Helgath has committed to a four-season tenure with the choir, succeeding Benjamin Goodson, who has played a key role in the ensemble’s artistic development since 2020.
Florian Helgath is internationally regarded as one of today’s leading and most sought-after choral conductors. He is the artistic director of Chorwerk Ruhr and chief conductor of the Zürcher Sing-Akademie, having developed both ensembles into world-class ensembles. His appointment marks the next phase in the development of the Groot Omroepkoor.
Helgath: “It is a great honor to be able to work with the Groot Omroepkoor starting in the 2027–2028 season. What particularly appeals to me is the combination of flexibility and quality that characterizes this ensemble. I look forward to building on what has been established while also developing new artistic directions.”
Helgath will conduct his first concert as chief conductor during the NTR Saturday Matinee in December 2027. In the run-up to that event, he is already working with the choir, including during the AVROTROS Friday Concert on June 12, 2026, at TivoliVredenburg.
The Groot Omroepkoor expresses its deep appreciation for Benjamin Goodson’s artistic leadership and looks forward to an inspiring collaboration with Florian Helgath.
