Alina Ibragimova

Alina Ibragimova plays Sibelius' Violin Concerto

Programme

  • Jean Sibelius Violin Concerto
  • Carl Nielsen Fifth symphony

Jean Sibelius, the most important composer in Finland's history, developed a completely unique musical language. This holds few secrets for award-winning violinist Alina Ibragimova; Sibelius' Violin Concerto is one of her favorite concertos. Hannu Lintu also leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Nielsen's overwhelming Fifth Symphony.

Sibelius' Violin Concerto
The music of Jean Sibelius, the most important composer in Finland's history, has both a poignant humanity and an overwhelming force of nature. Sibelius developed a completely unique musical language that is still very appealing today. Sibelius' Violin Concerto is a favorite of many violinists because of its emotional depth and the equal division of roles between violinist and orchestra. The piece makes extraordinarily high demands on the violinist's virtuosity.

Alina Ibragimova
Violinist Alina Ibragimova plays baroque music on gut strings with the same ease as brand new compositions and the romantic repertoire on modern violin. An extraordinarily versatile musician, in other words. The Guardian praised her direct and honest playing and called her Bach recording "genuinely thrilling. BBC Music added to that: lyrical they are there, about her extraordinary technique and power of expression.
