Dejan Lazic is a pianist who can count the whole world as his working area. Yet the Croatian pianist chose Amsterdam as his home, because of the favourable musical climate in our country. Therefore, his concerts in the Netherlands can fortunately continue for the time being, albeit with sometimes adapted (shorter) programmes. He therefore plays Mozart's Piano Concerto KV 414, a cheerful piece of music. Mozart chose this piece very consciously. He had just started as an independent composer and therefore wrote, in his own words, 'brilliant' piano concertos that are pleasant to listen to and bring pleasure to 'connoisseurs and laymen'. The tribute to the composer Theo Verbey, who died last year, fits in well with that. Fractal Variations for string orchestra is set up according to a 'Viennese' pattern that refers to Mozart: light and transparent. Pelleas en Melisande contains a torrent of musical ideas and rhythmic patterns, like the flaming passion of youth.
