The Great Mass by Mozart
Programme
- Igor Stravinsky Orpheus
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Mass in c minor, KV 427 'Great Mass'
If the final concert of the 2020-2021 season of the AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert were entirely dedicated to Berlioz' La damnation de Faust, unfortunately the corona rules do not allow this yet. Instead, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by chief conductor Karina Canellakis, will play the neo-classical ballet Orpheus. After the interval, the Groot Omroepkoor will join in for the Mass in c, or Mozart's Great Mass. Just settled in Vienna in 1782, Mozart set about composing this mass, which was to be performed for the first time in Salzburg in 1783 with his brand new wife Constanze as the soprano soloist. It is unclear whether this performance ever took place. What is certain is that Mozart left the work unfinished; it was later completed by musicologists.
This concert can be heard live on NPO Radio 4 and can also be seen as a webcast on nporadio4.nl/live and on the Facebook page of the AVROROS Friday Concert, among others.
