Dvořák's Mass in D is a spiritual work full of joie de vivre. The Groot Omroepkoor, conducted by Peter Dijkstra, will also sing motets by Bruckner and two from Wolfram Buchenberg's Vier geistliche Gesänge.

Dvořák's Mass in D
Dvořák's Mass in D was written with a very specific place in mind. A friend and client of Dvořák's built a chapel at his summer castle in Western Bohemia. It had to be consecrated, and Dvořák gladly accepted the commission. In his own summer residence, surrounded by nature, he composed a spirited work full of joie de vivre. Because the chapel was rather small, the Mass in D is also intimate in sound. The Groot Omroepkoor will be conducted by Peter Dijkstra.

Groot Omroepkoor with Buchenberg and Bruckner
Gregorian chant inspired Bruckner in the creation of the three motets you hear today. Worn, but never heavy. The Groot Omroepkoor has selected two pieces by Wolfram Buchenberg from Vier geistliche Gesänge. Buchenberg has a special affinity with vocal music. His subdued and at the same time sumptuous work is internationally regarded as one of the highlights of the contemporary a cappella repertoire.
