Christmas with the Venice Baroque Orchestra
On the last Saturday before Christmas: a Christmas Matinee with music from the Baroque era. Andrea Marcon, a welcome guest at the Matinee, this time brings along the musicians of the Venice Baroque Orchestra.
Pastoral atmospheres
The concert opens with Arcangelo Corelli's famous Concerto grosso (Fatto per la notte di Natale) of which the pastoral final movement is the most famous. A more pastoral atmosphere can be heard in the Concerto Pastorale by his slightly younger German colleague Johann Christoph Pez.
Prelude to Christmas 2020
Carolyn Sampson, in November still in the Matinee for Bach's Hohe Messe, sings the Salve Regina by Domenico Scarlatti and the spiritual motet Nulla in mundo pax sincera by Antonio Vivaldi. A beautiful prelude to the feast that will be celebrated grandly at this year's Matinee.
