Alan Belk

British-born tenor Alan Belk received his Bachelor of Science in music and singing from City University London and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He also received a Master of Arts in composition from The University of Keele.

He has performed solo and with ensembles such as Avanti (Helsinki) Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, London Sinfonietta and The Los Angeles Philharmonic. Alan has sung in opera productions in Dublin, with Opera Forum and for the BBC. Alan has always been active in the modern vocal genre. He has recorded with Electric Phoenix, Singcircle, Nieuwe Ensemble, Ensemble Modern and the jazz quartet Special Delivery, among others. Alan has written many compositions for his own "extended vocal ensemble" Vocem in England. With this ensemble, he has performed commissioned pieces by composers such as Javier Alvares, Alejandro Vinão, Vic Hoyland and Dominic Muldowney. In the Netherlands, he wrote pieces for television programmes and, in collaboration with writer Daniel Cohen, a number of musicals. As a singer and musical director, Alan has worked on many productions by the Dutch composer Harry de Wit. Besides the modern genre, he is also very much at home in the classical concert and oratorio field as a much sought-after soloist. Alan Belk is a full-time member of the Groot Omroepkoor.
