Dana Mihailescu
Dana Mihailescu has been second violinist with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra since 2002. She was born in Romania in 1976 and comes from a musical family. Her parents are both violinists. She received her first violin lessons from her father. She was then taught by V. Novak until, at the age of 12, she was accepted at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Her teachers were successively Qui van Woerdekom, Theodora Geraets and Jaring Walta.
She studied solo and orchestral music with Jaring Walta. In 2001 she obtained her performing musician diploma. She took master classes with Theo Olof, Viktor Liberman, Herman Krebbers, Jacques Ghestem, Aaron Rosand and Eduard Schmieder, among others.
Dana participated in various competitions, including the Maassluis Concours, the Iordens Viooldagen, the Rotterdams Concours, the Davina van Wely Concours and the Oskar Back Concours, where she reached the semi-finals.
Dana gained orchestral experience with the Atheneum Chamber Orchestra and the Conservatorium Orchestra in The Hague. In The Hague, she was a conductor and concertmaster at various times. She then worked with the Residentie Orkest, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also been concertmaster of the Musica Ducis chamber orchestra under Alexandru Lascae.
