Ed Spanjaard conducts French choir repertoire
Programme
- Maurice Duruflé Quatre motets sur des thèmes grégoriens
- Bart Visman To all
- Camille Saint-Saëns Mass opus 4
Duruflé (though not the renowned Requiem), and an early piece by Saint-Saëns. Ed Spanjaard and the Groot Omroepkoor will also premiere a work by the French-born Bart Visman.
Choral work by Duruflé and Saint-Saëns
Maurice Duruflé wrote so much more than his famous Requiem! A work like the Quatre motets sur des thèmes grégoriens has the same apparent simplicity. In this respect Duruflé is directly linked to Camille Saint-Saëns, whose Mass opus 4 is finally receiving the attention it deserves today - and this in a performance by the Groot Omroepkoor conducted by Ed Spanjaard.
New work by Bart Visman
The fact that Bart Visman has a new work among these French giants should come as no surprise. If there is one contemporary Dutch composer who feels at home with all that French voice refinement, it is Visman. "As if French composers from the twentieth century had coached him," Place de l'Opera already wrote about the stunning song cycle Sables, Oxygène that was performed at the Saturday Matinee in 2017.
