John Vredeveldt

After studying mathematics at Groningen University, John Vredeveldt studied solo singing at the Utrecht Conservatoire with Jos Burcksen and at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Herman Woltman. He graduated with good results in 1988.

In his conservatoire years he gained experience as a regular soloist at the concerts and services of the Dom Cantor in Utrecht, conducted by Maarten Kooy. Here he came into intensive contact with liturgical music, particularly that of Bach and Schütz.
John performed in various European countries as tenor soloist, oratorio and concert singer, including as evangelist with the Basler Bach Choir and in the Matthäus-Passion in the Dom of Aachen with the Dom Choir.
Besides his work for the Groot Omroepkoor, he has for many years performed as a Lieder singer with his regular pianist Harry Schram, most recently with Hugo Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch. John has been singing the part of the evangelist with the Haags Barokgezelschap for several years.
He has a great interest in the interfaces between music, mathematics and spirituality. He regularly gives lectures in this field.
